ISI Mark Mandatory: Furniture products like work chairs, tables, desks, storage units, beds, and more must bear the ISI mark from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
Compliance with IS Standards: Ensure your products meet the required IS standards For example:
Work chairs (IS 17631:2022)
General purpose chairs and stools (IS 17632:2022)
Tables and desks (IS 17633:2022)
Storage units ( IS 17634:2022)
Beds (IS 17635:2022)
Bunk Beds (IS 17636:2022)
Exemptions:
Products manufactured for export are exempt.
Micro & small enterprises have 18 months to comply from the notification date.
Udyam Portal Exemption: Domestic manufacturers with investments under ₹25 lakh and turnover under ₹2 crore are exempt.
Strict Enforcement: BIS will certify and enforce compliance. Non-compliance could lead to penalties under the BIS Act, of 2016.
